Looming Exam Dread

‘It is not the mountain that holds you back rather the grain of sand in your shoe.’

Exam time is looming bringing with it exhausted and worried faces amongst the college grounds. Libraries become cattle marts and booze drinkers being there dry spell. A college student’s worst nightmare is sunshine during study month. Endless stacks of books waiting to be read, Philosophies never touched now aching to be learnt. Will we pass, will we fail, will we repeat, and who will pay? These endless questions drain the mind of a sleepless student. For those of us lucky enough to be crossing the Atlantic to the forbidden land of AMERICA. I hope for your own sake you won’t be returning for the repeats in August. But is college results really the most important thing to employers??

From my own experiences things such as "work experience", "achievements", "volunteering" and "team sports" were amongst the highest priorities’ on the potential employers list of criteria. The term "All Rounder "a candidate with both academic and social skills were like gold to future employers. So my advice, while you may stress about receiving that perfect 2:1 degree, try to broaden your horizons. Search for that opportunity that will give you that extra edge!

Top 3 tips to become the Ultimate Employee:

Volunteer check local charities or your college website. Many colleges have societies that volunteer in various professions to help the vulnerable.
Join a club take up a sport or interest, something that will show teamwork and responsibility
Academics of course please remember to study in order to back up your CV.

Apply yourself. Get all the education you can, but then, by God, do something. Don't just stand there.’
